Celebration of the Seasons

We come together as a community of Earth's children on the solstices, equinoxes, and cross-quarter days to acknowledge Earth's cycles as well as our own. These celebrations are open to women, men, and also to children who are old enough to enjoy ceremony. Donations of $1-$5.

Check the calendar for time, date and place. The ceremonies are usually held in the yurt but some summer and fall celebrations are held at Shequaga if on a weekend. Weekday evenings are from 7-9 pm, bringing a snack to share. Weekend events are from 4-7 pm if in the yurt and from 1-4 pm if at Shequaga, bring a dish to pass.

  • Spring Equinox ~This is a time to come out of hibernation and celebrate your new life! We dance the dance of balance of all the opposites within and around us and make prayer ties for the East and the sprouting seeds of visions for the coming cycle.

  • May Day ~ The Festival of Fertility encourages all to honor the sacredness of Life! We weave ribbons on the Maypole to symbolize the union of Goddess and God, Earth and Sun, to create a bountiful cycle of growth on Earth and within ourselves.

  • Summer Solstice ~ This day we celebrate with a fire ceremony where we have an opportunity to burn away old patterns and release whatever old patterns that prevent us from moving forward in our flowering. We dance around the Sacred Fire for transformations and renew prayer ties for the South.

  • Lammas ~ We celebrate the harvest of the grains and share bread as well as harvest our dreams and visions together.

  • Fall Equinox ~ Celebrate the Fall Equinox, a day of balance between light and dark, with the darkness gathering strength. We make prayer ties to the West, looking at the new seeds growing within the fruit of this Earth cycle.

  • Hallowmas ~ Celebrate the Feast of the Dead, when the veil between the worlds is thin. Walk between the worlds with us to heal the planet and ourselves, and receive messages from those ancestors on the other side. Bring pictures for the altar of those who have recently passed.

  • Winter Solstice ~ On the longest night we gather to tell stories, call back the sun, and celebrate the beginning of a new cycle. We make prayer ties to the North and the seeds that are waiting to germinate in the Spring.

  • Annual Yurt Cleaning and Community Picnic ~ Come help clean out the yurt and give it a bath! Usually at 10 am in the summer with picnic to follow. Bring a dish to pass.

In addition there are community workdays at Shequaga (CIRCLE Retreat Center in Dansville) where we work, eat, and play together.
